
The Mission of the Writers' Center of Indiana is to nurture a writing community, to support established and emerging writers, to improve written and verbal communication, and to develop an audience for literature in Indiana.
Programs, services, and venue selection reflect our commitment to nurturing the practice of writing and the appreciation of written expression among diverse segments of our community. More than ever before the Writers' Center of Indiana is reaching out to forge new collaborative relationships with arts organizations, schools and universities, community organizations and social service providers, to increase the economy, quality and impact of our programs and services.

Offering classes and programs in which accomplished authors share their expertise.
- Published writers teach classes in poetry, fiction, memoir, nonfiction-and more.
- The annual Gathering of Writers and Readers features more than a dozen of Indiana's best writers in a day-long event.
- "Be a Better Writer" brings insight to writers and readers alike through a series of lectures on the craft of writing given by extraordinary writers.
Providing support for Indiana writers working at all levels.
- E-Newsletters spread the word about Writers' Center events, as well as other literary happenings.
- The Writers' Center promotes the new work of Indiana authors in a variety of ways.
- The Writers' Center provides aspiring and experienced writers a wealth of information about writing and the writing life, as well as opportunities to connect with one another and share their work online.

Taking writing into the community, giving voice to people not usually heard. In 2009...
- The Writers' Center taught taught classes to senior citizens at the Flanner House that resulted in Sitting at Our Elders' Feet, a book chock-full of their memories and their wisdom.
- Twenty juvenile offenders at the Indiana Correctional Institute for Girls worked with Writers' Center staff and a cadre of volunteers to explore their lives through writing.
- Nearly a thousand students, teachers, and library patrons throughout the state benefited by author visits, classes, or lectures presented by the Writers' Center of Indiana.
