Are you planning on participating in National Novel Writing Month in November and have no idea where to start? Do you have a vague notion of your story but not sure how to fill it out? This class will cover ways to plan your novel, develop your major characters, and create your story worlds/settings. This can all be done prior to November so that you can start NaNoWriMo with a clear direction and framework for writing your novel as quickly as possible.

This class will include techniques for structuring your novel, character development, for integrating setting into your story, techniques for increasing tension and conflict, and lessons in planning research that can be done ahead of time.

The class will utilize a variety of methods, including formal presentations, in-class exercises, and workshop-style discussions where students can present their ideas and get feedback from other participants in the class.

Please bring your novel ideas and a notebook or laptop.

Any writer is welcome! Writers who simply want to learn how to quickly write a first draft of their novel outside of the boundaries of NaNoWriMo, will find these techniques still apply.
