Interstitial Arts Foundation Monthly Salon

Are you interstitial? Do you write, create, or perform material that falls in between or outside of traditional genre categories?  Are you interested in collaborating across genres and artistic disciplines?   Or do you enjoy broadening your horizons while meeting writers and artists of all types doing exciting cross-disciplinary work? Then you belong in the IAF monthly salon, coming soon to Indianapolis!
The IAF was founded by a group of literary, visual, musical, and performance artists for the purpose of developing and promoting interstitial art.  To see the exciting work of the foundation, visit the website: http://www.interstitialarts.org/about/index.php

What is interstitial art?

It is art made in the interstices between genres and categories. It is art that flourishes in the borderlands between different disciplines, mediums, and cultures. It is art that crosses borders, made by artists who refuse to be constrained by category labels.

What is an IAF salon?

IAF salons bring together creative souls of all sorts in order to develop a sense of community and celebrate interstitial art in its myriad forms. The origins of literary and artistic salons go back to 17th century France, when inspiring hosts and hostesses gathered interesting people together to exchange ideas and enjoy stimulating discussions. Today there may be fewer wealthy patrons willing to host an event in their townhouses, but there is always a need for artists to meet other artists, to explore other circles of creative influence, and to cross-artistic borders.

The Interstitial Salon meets at 7 p.m. at the Writers’ Center of Indiana on the fourth Sunday of every month.  It’s free!

Join us for the inaugural session on February 28, 2010.  Bring your passion, your enthusiasm, and if you're a working artist, a brief sample of whatever it is that you create:  a writing sample, art portfolio, your laptop with recorded music or video excerpts of performances, etc.
