On the surface short stories seem less challenging to write than novels, but that is far from the truth. Short stories demand brevity and deep character development in a small space. Plots are less complex, and are anchored on one theme or emotion, requiring focused restraint from the writer. In this class, we’ll discuss what a short story is and what it is not. In hands-on exercises, we’ll discover, plot, character, and emotions for your next short story. We’ll also tackle formatting, submitting, and look at the current state of paying and nonpaying short story markets. Come prepared to write.
