There are amazing stories hidden inside those who live quietly among us, and it is the mission of the Indiana Writers Center to bring them to light. The IWC supports Indiana writers of all ages and backgrounds and reaches out to people whose voices are rarely heard. Classes and workshops taught by published writers provide writing education that encourages creative expression and enhances the communication skills necessary for success in school, in the workplace, and in life. We envision a thriving center where Indiana writers build the writing skills appropriate to their goals and experience the healing, empowering and joyful benefits that engaging in the creative process brings.
Due to COVID19 we have cancelled all in-person programming until it is deemed safe and appropriate to invite people to once again come together at the center. This decision has had an extensive financial impact on the center, and ultimately affects the scope of our goals for the future.
We are navigating a new world like so many others. During this closure, we are working hard to be present, and to continue to be a resource bringing this community of writers together. We have had success in developing and presenting new low cost and accessible virtual programming like Journaling Through the Pandemic and Come Write In! sessions with Tracy Line. These virtual programs allow our community of writers to come together and write, and also include an opportunity for people who may be suffering financial burden due to the pandemic to choose their own price and participate.
We are thankful for our instructors who have worked with us to adapt some classes to live, virtual classes on Zoom. Being online, we’ve been able to reach more people throughout the state of Indiana. Our fiction critique group and the Indiana Playwrights Circle Scene Nights have both adapted to meet the demand of growing writers with online meetings that are accessible to people throughout Indiana.
During this uncertain time we still have our usual operational and facility expenses to cover, as well as the additional expenses for remote working and new technology necessary to expand our ability to provide education through online platforms.
Your generous support is vital in helping IWC fulfill its mission, and is especially appreciated during challenging moments such as this one. We hope you will consider making a donation below if you are able.
