My mother always said that "the other half of cooking is cleaning up." Similar to this, the other half of writing is revising -- and not just merely proofreading with a couple copy edits here and there. True revision goes beyond this. In this class, you will bring in a piece of work you consider a completed first draft and learn how to revise it to make it better. We will cover some of the revision methods used by big authors while also learning some specific "trouble" words that are weakening your work. After discussing these methods, you'll apply what you've just learned and do in-class revision on your piece.
You must bring a completed first draft to class. We will be spending our time revising existing work, not writing a new piece. You can do your revisions on hard copy or electronically, whichever is your preference.
