Seeking Authors
Greenwood Public Library will be holding an author fair on Oct. 18, 2014, from 1-4 pm. We are seeking authors who would be interested in participating. The library would provide a table at no charge. Authors would be responsible for creating any displays or decorating and selling their own books. Teaching Vonnegut Workshop
Teaching Teachers 2014 now taking applications
Free weeklong workshop is July 14-18
Students find Kurt Vonnegut’s sense of humor and willingness to speak out irresistible, once you get them to open the book.
At the 2014 Teaching Teachers to Teach Vonnegut workshop, high school teachers and librarians will hear from Vonnegut scholars on how to introduce one of our nation’s best authors to young people. And you’ll earn professional development credits for each hour you attend. Rodney Allen, PhD, Vonnegut scholar and author of Conversations with Kurt Vonnegut and Understanding Kurt Vonnegut, will lead the workshop once again. Other presenters include Dr. Gregory Sumner, author of Unstuck in Time: A Journey Through Vonnegut’s Life and Works, and Dr. Jon Eller, author of Becoming Ray Bradbury.
As always, the goal is to give teachers information they need to effectively share Vonnegut’s work with students. Vonnegut’s writing is relevant to social issues today – environmentalism, militarism, human rights, censorship, religion’s place in civic life – and students will find his humor and insights into the human condition fascinating and challenging.

Writers across the region are invited to the third annual writing workshop organized by Louisville-based Women Who Write, July 12, at Jefferson Community and Technical College, 505 Buffalo Run Rd., Shepherdsville, Ky. The full-day workshop, “Exploring the Writer’s Craft,” focuses on helping writers build skills.

The mission of MWW is to give all writers the opportunity to improve their craft, to associate with highly credentialed professionals, and to network with other writers.

The IU Simon Cancer Center Art Cart program is seeking poetry and short prose (1-2 pages) for publication in a creative writing collection to be published this fall. Anyone whose life has been affected by cancer (patients, family members, caregivers) is invited to submit his/her writing for consideration.
We All Have a Story
Here is your chance to write yours. It is that time of year again, when fans from all over the world gather with coolers in hand, headsets tuned to one of the many race broadcasts, a sense of nostalgia while Jim Nabors sings Back Home Again in Indiana, and growing anticipation to find out who will be drinking the milk this year. The Indy 500 is billed as The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, and is considered one of the three most prestigious motorsports events in the world. Its international acclaim is deeply embedded, which I’m reminded of whenever I travel – it is the first reference people make as soon as I tell them where I live. This season the IMS is presenting a 2015 VIP experience to the winner of their We All Have a Story Contest on the theme Your Experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Event. Works must be non-fiction, and are due by August 30, 2014.
Sledgehammer 36-Hour Writing Contest
Form a team or write solo in this quirky writing contest to shatter writer’s block! Contest involves completing a scavenger hunt to collect writing prompts (either online from anywhere or in person in Portland, Ore.), writing a story within 36 hours, and competing for prizes collectively worth over $25,000. Judges include writing experts at Indigo Editing & Publications and New York Times bestseller Ariel Gore. Cost: $40 for adults, $10 for ages 11–17, and $5 for ages 10 and under.

Aesthetica Creative Writing Competition 2014: Call for Entries
The Aesthetica Creative Writing Competition has launched its Call for Entries, presenting a fantastic opportunity for established and emerging writers to showcase their poetry and short fiction to an international audience.
Previous winners and finalists from the Aesthetica Creative Writing Competition have gone on to achieve recognition around the world, having been selected from over 3,000 entries to be published the anthology. Last year, poetry winner and award-winning novelist Sylvia Adams was selected for her piece Hands A Choice, and Jennifer Roe championed the Short Fiction category with Roses are Red.
Prizes include publication in the Aesthetica Creative Writing Annual, a compelling anthology of new writing loved by audiences internationally including literary students and fellow writers, a selection of inspirational books from our competition partners and £500 prize money.

Poetry Contest
Tim Harmon is doing an art project with the Harrison Center. He is inviting people to write a poem about the King Park neighborhood. ( Fall creek to the North. The interstate to the south. Monon Trail to the east and Pennsylvania Ave. to the west. Poems will be included in art pieces that Tim makes. Each poem used will receive $50.00 if and when the art sells. He will be doing one piece a month for 2014.

Self-Publishing Workshop

The CRC now offers two courses for writers who want to get published: “Self-Publish a Paperback at Little or No Cost” and “Self-Publish an e-Book at Little or No Cost.”
Each course consists of six one-hour classes. Each class is offered on Tuesdays, repeated on Thursdays. You may attend on Tuesday or Thursday or both each week. The cost is $75 for six weeks. Butler Bridge Program
The Butler Bridge workshops are designed to develop the writing skills of pre-college students(grades 3-12). Participation in such an individualized writing workshop program will help students prepare for college while also nurturing their talents and imaginations. Kid’s Magazine
Indiana Kids magazine, a brand new family project (not a commercial one) written, edited and published for kids, about kids and by kids, is seeking submissions from Indiana kids across the state.
This online quarterly magazine is a family project of the Miller and Anderson families of central Indiana, founded to teach our own family’s Indiana kids how to work together, how to interview people (which involves a lot of listening), how to interpret and write about what they’ve learned, and to introduce them to many other interesting Indiana kids around the state they might otherwise not get to meet. Please send us your poetry, short stories, art work and photography. Make sure the photographs are a jpg file. The drawings can be pdf files. The poems and stories can be either Microsoft Word or just written in the body of the email.
