Are you writing a novel? Short stories? Flash fiction? Looking to get started on a new project, or dig back into something you started and set aside? It’s all welcome in this six-week workshop designed to help you create new work or make progress on your project. You’ll respond to writing exercises, write outside of class to meet weekly deadlines, and discuss craft elements such as plot, character development, structure, style, tension, pacing, and more.

 

 

About the instructor:
Alida Dean’s short stories have recently appeared in The ForgeChicago Quarterly Review and SmokeLong Quarterly, among other venues, and she was a 2025 fellow in poetry at the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts. She earned her PhD in English and Creative Writing at The University of Cincinnati. Alida teaches Creative Writing at Binghamton University and lives in Ithaca, New York with her partner and daughter.
