Learn how to put on your editor’s cap and slash away at flabby text! You’ve finished a novel or a short story and you can feel the glow. Enjoy the moment, but realize this is a first draft. You need to go back over the text, not just look for typos, but examine it at levels of theme, continuity, scene development and word choice–all with an eye to pacing and moving the story forward. Bring a short story or the first chapter of a novel and your editor’s cap.
