The Indiana Writers Center is launching the Songwriter’s Circle

Songwriting is a unique form of expression because the act of setting words to music almost demands there be a listener somewhere in the equation.  For many songwriters, the act of writing a song is a solo act, practiced alone.  But sometimes you need someone to help you replace that ‘almost right word’ in a verse with the ‘right word’ or maybe just tell you that you got it right the first time.

The Songwriter’s Circle is intended to be a collaborative space where aspiring songwriters can meet, share songs, talk about the songwriting process, and gather feedback when it is desired.  The Circle is not a class or a workshop: it is not about ‘how to’ or the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to write a song.  The Circle is intended to be a sharing and supportive space where songwriters can gather to share and hear new music.

The Songwriters Circle will meet on the second Thursday of each month.  Participation will be limited to twelve songwriters.  This ensures that everyone will have a chance to share songs during the session.  The Circle will meet at the Athenaeum from 6:30 – 8:30pm.  Once a year, the Indiana Writers Center will stage a Songwriters Showcase to give participants an opportunity to share their songs with the public.

About the facilitator:
The Songwriter’s Circle will be led by Lee Lewellen.  Lee has been playing guitar and writing songs since he was fifteen but has spent decades since then serving as a professional facilitator and meeting organizer. He will be there to keep everything on track and make sure that everyone gets an opportunity to participate.
