Here’s your chance to spring forward with that exciting writing project you need to make progress on—or begin something new. Head to the scenic Oakwood Retreat Center (near Muncie) for a writer’s retreat, and spend the weekend getting inspired, writing, sharing your work, and making new friends.

One of our January 2015 retreat participants told us:
Had the most amazing weekend! I attended the Indiana Writers Center Winter Writers Retreat at the Oakwood Retreat Center near Selma…. Met some incredible people and heard a fantastic variety of incredible writing. I always feel so renewed after these events, and I wrote a new story for my book yesterday.

The workshop will be relaxed, focused primarily on a quiet setting to get work done, punctuated with optional gatherings for those who want some support or need a break from the writing. The sessions will be facilitated by Alicia Rasley and Andy Black, both members of the IWC faculty.

The retreat begins at 6 PM on Friday night with a group gathering over dinner. There will be a general intro session, a chance to talk about our areas of focus (fiction, poetry, playwriting, etc.) and to identify writing goals for the weekend. The facility will be open to the group at noon on Friday for writers who want to come early and get started on the writing sooner rather than later.

Plenty of downtime will be available to write, with (optional) workshops on general topics for writers (point of view) and genre-specific topics (playwriting for the non-playwright). A highlight is the group critique session on Saturday evening where all are invited to read their work and receive feedback. The event will be interdisciplinary, so you will meet and hang with playwrights, poets, fiction writers, novelists, memoir writers and more. A final debrief will happen over lunch at noon on Sunday, and writers are welcome to stay till 3 working independently if they feel so inclined.

Directions will be provided upon registration.

Rainbow Farm is the setting for Oakwood Retreat Center, located in East Central Indiana just east of Muncie. Meadows, trails, woodlands, and organically farmed fields surround the dwellings and meeting space. Gardens invite guests to wander or rest in the midst of the beauty of every season. Indoor spaces reflect the outer majesty creating an atmosphere for contemplation, reflection, and discovery. A central meeting room is the gathering space for meals and group activities. Three smaller cabins contain bedrooms, with a shared bath, in a cozy setting. The amenities are modern; each cabin has a full kitchen and shared space.
