The Writing Journal & Flash Fiction, for ages 11-14

Instructor:  Sarah Ginter
D
ate: Sunday, October 11
Time: 1-2:30 p.m.
Location: IWC
Cost: $20
This workshop is for middle schoolers, ages 11-14

This will be a two-part workshop where we first talk about the writer’s journal. We will work on a few writing prompts to get the creativity flowing. I’ll provide tips on what to keep in your journal – observations throughout the day, character sketches, and even things like pictures you find in everyday items like magazines. Doing this kind of “work” helps when you want to get started on a piece of writing!

The second part of the workshop will be dedicated to developing ideas for and writing a piece of flash fiction, which is just that – fiction that is read in a flash yet captures the punch of an entire story in as few as 200 words to as many as 1,500 words. We will talk about how to choose your words wisely in order to make every word count to the telling of your story.
