We will examine the general guidelines of writing for the stage, and apply them to film and television. The limitations and opportunities of each medium will be examined and contrasted. We will also discuss what makes an idea suitable for each of the varying formats. A portion of the class-time will be used to write scenes, providing time for firsthand exploration of the formats and techniques discussed.

Glen Merzer has written for the stage for decades, and has three plays published by Samuel French. Two of his plays toured to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Glen wrote for network television for ten years, writing both comedies and dramas. He has written many screenplays, and has had one film produced. He is also author of the novel Off the Reservation, and co-author of many works of non-fiction on health, diet, and the environment.
