This class takes novels, poems, short stories, and nonfiction from the “literary canon”—the stuff they use in college literature courses, and examines those works from a writer’s perspective. Each class will have one text that for you to read in the two weeks prior to the class, then I’ll help you break down that work to learn, mimic, and steal techniques from the writer we read. If there’s a work you’d really love to do, then we will devote few minutes of discussion to some democratic input, and make our next choice under the influence. I’ll tailor the lessons so that if you haven’t finished the chosen text you’ll still get a lot out of the class.
